Hanoi (VNA) – Deputy Prime Ministerand Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh had talks over the phone with US Secretaryof State Antony Blinken on February 5.

Congratulating Blinken on his appointment as USSecretary of State, Minh expressed his readiness to cooperate closely withBlinken to further promote the Vietnam - US comprehensive partnership for thesake of the two peoples, thereby contributing to peace, security, development,and prosperity in the Asia - Pacific region and the world as a whole.

Sharing the view that the two countries’relations have enjoyed strides in all aspects over the last 25 years, theofficials agreed to work together to develop bilateral ties morecomprehensively and intensively in the time ahead, with focus on economy -trade - investment, settlement of war consequences, improvement of maritimecapacity, science - technology, education - training, COVID-19 prevention andcontrol, and climate change response.

The US Secretary of State offeredcongratulations on the success of the 13th National Congress of the CommunistParty of Vietnam, affirming his country’s continued attachment of importance torelations with the Southeast Asian nation.

He also congratulated Vietnam on its successfulperformance in the 2020 ASEAN Chairmanship and the first half of its two-yearterm as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

The US respects and supports ASEAN’s centralityin the region and wishes stronger cooperation between the two sides in regionaland international mechanisms on issues of common concern, Blinken added./.

Over the past 55 years since establishing diplomatic relations, Vietnam and Switzerland have become reliable and effective partners across various fields. Political trust has continued to be strengthened through visits and high-level meetings. In January 2025, the two countries established a Comprehensive Partnership, marking a new milestone in the bilateral relations. 16th National Assembly commences second session

The parliament’s second session is scheduled to last until November 21. It is divided into two phases, with the first from October 17 to November 14, and the second from November 20 to 21.
