Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh (R) receives Chair of APEC Vision Group Allan Wagner (Source: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham BinhMinh on November 30 welcomed Allan Wagner, who is Chair of the Asia-PacificEconomic Cooperation (APEC) Vision Group and former Foreign Minister of Peru,who is in Hanoi to attend a conference on Vietnam’s 20-year APEC membership.
Minh expressed his delight at the positive development inVietnam-Peru relations over the past few years, affirming that Vietnam attachesgreat importance to intensifying and expanding its comprehensive cooperationwith Peru, especially in terms of economics, trade, and investment.
Appreciating the role of Peru and Allan Wagner as the APECVision Group’s Chair, he suggested that both sides continue coordinatingclosely in building new orientations for APEC cooperation after 2020.
Wagner spoke of Vietnam’s role in and contributions to theforum over the past two decades, particularly the success of the APEC Year2017.
He agreed to continue boosting the two countries’ relationsand maintaining their coordination at multilateral forums, especially theUnited Nations and the APEC, as well as in implementing the Comprehensive andProgressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). Wagner alsocommitted to fostering the collaboration between Vietnam and the Association ofSoutheast Asian Nations (ASEAN) with Latin American nations.
He appreciated the role of Vietnam in initiating theestablishment of the APEC Vision Group at the 2017 APEC Economic Leaders’Meeting, as well as the country’s contributions as the group’s Vice Chair.
Both sides reached a consensus on close coordination tobuild a new APEC vision to boost free and open trade and investment, alongsideregional economic linkages and maintaining the role of the Asia-Pacific regionas a driving force for global economic growth and connectivity. –VNA
