Phu Yen (VNA) – Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung has asked the south central province of Phu Yen to take urgent measures to cope with Typhoon Damrey, the 12th of its kind arising in the East Sea so far this year.

Working with Phu Yen leaders on November 3, Dung requested the province to review fishing vessels operating at sea and aquaculture farms, not allowing any boat to operate at sea and rivers from now on.

Phu Yen must devise plans to evacuate local residents out of low places and areas likely to be directly affected by the storm, he said.

The Deputy PM urged Phu Yen to focus on ensuring safety for public works, while keeping a close eye on local dams and lakes, and actively respond to heavy rains.

At the same time, the province need to mobilise personnel and vehicles for rescue activities, he said.

While visiting the construction site of Ro village dyke in Tuy Hoa city, Dung asked Phu Yen to reinforce weak positions, avoiding new erosions.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and Phu Yen must work closely together to seek technical solutions to prevent erosions and protect public works as well as residential areas.

By 13:00 on November 3, the storm was about 350 km east off the coast of Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa and Ninh Thuan provinces, with sustained wind speed of 115-135 km per hour, causing heavy downpours from Quang Tri to Binh Thuan provinces.-VNA
