Deputy PM requires strict sanction of IUU fishing acts

The Government Office has issued a document announcing Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang's directions made at his recent teleconference with leaders of 13 Mekong Delta localities, requesting more aggressive actions to combat illegal, unregulated and unreported (IUU) fishing.

Hanoi (VNA) - The Government Office has issued a document announcing Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang's directions made at his recent teleconferencewith leaders of 13 Mekong Delta localities, requesting more aggressive actionsto combat illegal, unregulated and unreported (IUU) fishing.

Accordingly, Deputy PM Quang requested that plans and agendamust be carefully prepared before the upcoming working session with the European Commission's fourthinspection team, in order to have the commission’s ‘yellow card’ warning againstVietnamese seafood exports removed by October 2023.

The Ministries of Agriculture and Rural Development,National Defence and Foreign Affairs and relevant localities are required tostrictly follow the Prime Minister's directions on the action plan against IUUfishing.

The Ministry of National Defence was asked to coordinatewith the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in proposing effectivesolutions to prevent fishing vessels from violating foreign waters.

The Ministry of Public Security should prosecute thoseinvolved in bringing Vietnamese fishing boats and fishermen to infringe uponforeign waters.

The Deputy PM also required the Ministry of Agriculture andRural Development to coordinate with coastal localities to well perform theirtask of protecting and regenerating aquatic resources, and developing effective occupation change models.

Local authorities should intensify management over theirfishing fleets and coordinate with competent agencies to investigate andradically sanction acts of IUU fishing, according to the conclusion.

Regarding the completion of software to combat IUU fishing,Deputy PM Quang assigned the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to workwith the People's Committee of Ca Mau province to finish the work in August,and consider replicating the application of the software in other localities./.

Dak Lak to build nearly 4,300 homes for needy households

Japanese-funded bomb, mine clearance equipment project launched

Colonel Le Quang Hop, Deputy General Director of VNMAC, noted that the project includes the acquisition of four specialised pieces of equipment for mine clearance, as well as training and technology transfer. Quang Ngai to remove hundreds of unregistered fishing vessels

To date, Quang Ngai has 5,194 registered fishing vessels, with data regularly updated in the National Fisheries Database (VNFishbase). The provincial licensing rate for fishing activities has reached 81.94%, while 99% of local vessels required to install vessel monitoring systems (VMS) have complied.

A total of 351 communes free of temporary, dilapidated houses

From February 21-28, 7,540 temporary and dilapidated houses were renovated or replaced nationwide, bringing the total number of facilities improved under humanitarian policy to 115,481. Of these, 62,737 houses were inaugurated, while construction began on another 52,744.
