Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh on April 2 called for a review of thenation's policies on aquaculture, seafood processing and support foroffshore fishing.

Chairing a meeting on fisheries development inHanoi, he asked relevant ministries and State agencies to suggestappropriate revisions to the policies so that timely amendments can bemade.

He also asked them to improve logistics for the fisheriesindustry, reorganise funding to make it more efficient, and initiateeasier access to preferential credit of offshore fishermen.

A modern centre with shipbuilding and ship repair services should also be considered, Ninh said.

Overthe last two decades, seafood production has emerged as one ofVietnam's key industries, enjoying rapid growth and earning significantexport revenues.

The industry has helped create jobs for fourmillion workers and helped improve the lives of people whilecontributing to the national security of islands and sea territories,the meeting heard.

Speakers at the meeting said that Vietnam wason the right track to become a leading country in tra fish farming andexport. The country already ranks third in shrimp production and islisted among the world's four largest seafood exporters.

Vietnam's seafood products are now available in 160 countries and territories, the meeting heard.-VNA

HCM City to use municipal budget for Metro Line No. 2 project

The Metro Line No. 2 project has an estimated investment of nearly 47.9 trillion VND (2 billion USD) and has nearly completed land clearance, at 99.8%. The NA’s Resolution 188 authorises HCM City to develop seven metro lines spanning 355 kilometres over the next decade, with preliminary total investment for the 2025-2035 phase estimated at 40.2 billion USD.
