Hanoi (VNA) – The Party, State and people of Vietnam treasure the stable, healthy and sustainable development of the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership with Chinese counterparts, said Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh.

During a meeting with Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Yu Zhengsheng on April 17 in Beijing, where he co-chaired the 10th meeting of the Vietnam-China Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation together with Chinese State Councillor Yang Jiechi, Minh said both Vietnam and China are in an important stage of the reform process and share the common interests of maintaining a peaceful and stable environment to serve national development.

In the context of rapid and complicated developments in the region and the world, he stressed that the two nations need to maintain high-level exchanges and meetings, increase political trust, strengthen the traditional friendship and facilitate mutually-beneficial cooperation between localities.

According to the Deputy PM, well controlling disagreements and peacefully settling maritime disputes in line with international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982 are conformable with the basic and long-term interests of the two countries and people and beneficial to the maintenance of peace and stability in the region and the world.

Yu, for his part, spoke highly of the outcomes of the 10th meeting the Vietnam-China Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation and affirmed that China attaches importance to promoting friendly neighbourliness and comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam.

He emphasised the significance of visits by Chinese and Vietnamese senior leaders in mapping out orientations for the development of ties between the two Parties and countries.

The official also affirmed that China is ready to enhance cooperative relations with Vietnam, expand people-to-people exchanges and well control maritime disagreements, thus contributing to peace, stability and prosperity in the region.

As scheduled, Deputy PM Minh will meet with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on April 18 morning.-VNA
