- Designers from lesser-known fashion industries such as Haiti, Turkey and Colombia will participate in the Vietnam International Fashion Week (VIFW) – Fall/Winter 2018, which is schedule to take place in Hanoi from October 25 to 27.

More than 10 talented Vietnamese designers and emerging brands will also unveil their collections at Vietnam’s biggest international fashion event.

President of the VIFW Le Thi Quynh Trang said that the week, which has been held seven times, has proved Vietnam’s ability to integrate into the flow of global fashion.

“The event has not only opened the door to the world’s fashion industry, but has also made Vietnam’s dream of becoming a developing fashion industry come true,” she said.

Among the foreign designers, Haitian designer Jovana Benoit – creator of the brand Jovana Louis – said she would unveil her collection inspired by Vietnamese culture and its people.

“Since I’ve moved here with my husband, I have regarded this Asian country as my second home. I’ve got a lot of inspiration for my creations here. My brand is a mix of Vietnamese, French and Haitian.

I can’t wait to show them to the Vietnamese people,” she said.

Turkish Ambassador to Vietnam Akif Ayhan, who also attended the recent press conference on the VIFW, said he was impressed by the professionalism of the organisers as well as the scale of the VIFW, which he had chance to attend twice in both Hanoi and HCM City.

“Having witnessed their professionalism, I’ve decided to get involved in the VIFW by introducing a leading Turkish designer to this fashion event,” he said.

The VIFW will showcase creations by Turkish designer Mehmet Koymen and Columbian designer Jorge Duque Veslez.

The VIFW will also feature collections created by the top five students of the Hanoi-based London College for Design & Fashion.

Among them, Park Su-yon, a woman from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), will introduce her collection Unity which was inspired by this year’s Winter Olympics, where the DPRK and the Republic of Korea competed in several sport games as a team under one Korean flag for the first time in 18 years.

Famous HCM City-based designers Lam Gia Khang and Nguyen Tien Truyen will treat the VIFW audience with their latest collections.

A lineup of several other Vietnamese brands will also attend the week include Owen by Hoang Minh Ha, Emspo, Viet Tien, Veston Ngoc Lan, Butuni, Happy Clothing and Ruby’s Midu.
