EC continues support for education administration in Vietnam

The information was released at a two-dayconference opened in Nha Trang city of Khanh Hoa province on March 2, whichdiscussed the implementation of the Support to the Renovation of EducationManagement (SREM) project in 2010, the final year of the project.

Thetraining workshops are planned to help education and training departments aroundthe country develop Project Management Information System (PMIS), EducationManagement Information System (EMIS) and Vietnamese EMIS (VEMIS).

Theconference created an opportunity for participants to discuss methods andmeasures to implement the SREM project, and introduced two new systems formanaging libraries and school equipment.

Launched in early 2006, theSREM project has a total funding of 14.4 million EUR, of which the ECcontributed 12 million EUR and the remaining came from the Vietnamesegovernment’s budget.

The project focuses on strengthening managementcapacity of education administrators and IT-based management systems in thenational education and training system./.

Phu Tho: 200kg bomb safely relocated, detonated

According to a report by the Phu Tho Military Command, local residents spotted the bomb on August 31 in the Da River after the river water receded, exposing it beneath mud and soil on the riverbed. The bomb remained intact, including its fuse, and was located about 300m from a residential area.

Shift to data-driven administrative procedures needs acceleration

Under a draft decree replacing Decree 63, authorities will have to proactively pull information from databases and records for informational or technical procedures. Applicants would no longer be required to resubmit documents, and certification or information requests could not be turned into discretionary licensing through an “ask – give” mechanism.
