Hanoi (VNA) – Minister of Education and Training Phung Xuan Nha has approved the award of a certificate of merit to Do Van Bang, a student in Soc Trang province who returned a lost wallet with a large amount of cash to its owner.

Bang is a 10th grader of Tran Van Bay High School in the Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang’s Thanh Tri district. He and two friends found a wallet containing 40 million VND in cash and many personal papers near a bus stop and brought it to the police station on February 19.

Bang and his friends, Tran Thanh Moi, 16, and Le Nhi Khang, 14, were from families in disadvantaged circumstances. Moi and Khang had to quit school as their families are too poor.

The Ministry of Education and Training has asked the Soc Trang Department of Education and Training to look for ways to help the two boys return to school or join vocation training courses.

Also on February 26, Soc Trang police awarded the boys with the “good citizen – good deed” tittle for their contribution to national security. They also received certificates of merit from the local authorities for their honest act.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on February 24 sent a letter to the boys praising their honesty.- VNA
