Hanoi (VNA) – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi concluded his two-day State visit to Vietnam on September 7 with fruitful results.

During his stay, the Egyptian leader paid a courtesy call to Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, held talks with President Tran Dai Quang, and had meetings with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.

He attended the Vietnam-Egypt business forum. He paid tribute to late President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum and laid a wreath at the Heroic Martyrs’ Monument in Hanoi.

At the meetings, the two sides shared delight at the outcomes of the first visit by a Egyptian President, describing it as an important milestone in the development of the traditional friendship and all-round cooperation between Vietnam and Egypt.

They agreed to increase the exchange of delegations through Government, National Assembly, locality, and people-to-people links and connection between the two business communities, along with continuously promoting the efficiency of the existing cooperation mechanisms such as the Intergovernmental Committee and political consultations, thus strengthening mutual understanding.

They concurred to work closely together to organise activities celebrating the 55th anniversary of  diplomatic ties in 2018.

Along with bolstering bilateral cooperation in trade and investment, the two sides will create optimal conditions for businesses of both sides to access the respective markets, aiming to raise two-way trade to 1 billion USD in the future.

The Vietnamese and Egyptian leaders agreed to beef up collaboration in the fields of standards and quality, while increasing cultural exchange activities, including the organisation of cultural days and weeks in the respective countries.

Both sides were delighted to see the sound affiliation between the two countries at regional and international forums, including mutual support for each other in running for seats in United Nations agencies.

They emphasised their wishes and determination to maintain maritime order suitable to principles of international law shown in the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

On the occasion, President Tran Dai Quang and his Egyptian counterpart witnessed the signing of nine cooperation agreements in various fields.

The two sides also issued a joint statement on the visit.-VNA
