CLV summit affirms resolve to enhance links

Eighth CLV summit affirms determination to enhance links

Measures agreed at 8th Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam summit will allow broader economic connections to be made.
Measures agreed at the freshly-ended eighth Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle (CLV) summit will allow broader economic connections to be made, said Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son.

They included making a list on prioritised projects for investment, building special preferential policies, making a planning for tourism development, and completing a rubber industry development scheme, said Son.

High consensus was reached on the need to bolster partnership in security and cross-border criminal prevention and fighting, and speed up joint programmes in environmental protection and natural resources management, he said.

At the event, the leaders reviewed the implementation of the revised master plan on socio-economic development of the CLV development triangle area to 2020 and the memorandum of understanding on preferential policies for the area.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung introduced a host of initiatives, with those on the upgrade and expansion of the CLV framework and the designing of a plan on economic connectivity winning the participants’ approval, said Son.

He said the summit offered opportunities for the three countries’ leaders to affirm the political determination in bolstering their all-faceted cooperation and furthering the traditional solidarity and friendly neighbourliness.

PM Nguyen Tan Dung met with General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and President Choummaly Sayasone and Lao Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong, reaching an agreement to increase high-level exchanges and effectively implement bilateral cooperation mechanism.

They committed to backing businesses’ links, pushing negotiations for a free trade agreement to be signed, and raising two-way trade to 2 billion USD by 2015, Son noted.

Meeting Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, the two sides emphasised the need to maintain high-level meetings, work closely together in economics, trade, investment, and security and defence.

The two countries have set to lift two-way trade to 5 billion USD in 2015 and to complete land border demarcation for a shared border of peace, friendship, stability and development, Son said.

The PMs vowed to continue creating favourable conditions for their citizens to enjoy equal treatment and full integration in the host countries, Son noted.-VNA
