Ethnic minorities’ lives improved through policies

In 2023 and the first seven months of this year, the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau has allocated 11.4 million USD to help local ethnic communities improve their living conditions. Positives changes have been recorded.

The money is funded from the National Target Program for Socio-Economic Development for Ethnic Minorities, during the 2022-2025 period. It was used to help local ethnic people to build or repair their houses, as well as enhance cultural, educational, and legal knowledge.

Ly Van Hung, a Cho Ro ethnic man born in 1992 in Long Tan commune, Dat Do district, struggled with his wife as they lacked stable jobs. In 2024, local authorities provided him with over 3,000 USD to build a new small house. By April 2024, the couple had moved into their new residence.

At the beginning of 2016, the province had 1,467 ethnic minority households classified as poor, accounting for 19.7%. Now, only 78 households remain in poverty according to the provincial standards.

Ba Ria-Vung Tau currently has nearly 9,000 households, totaling 25,700 individuals from 38 ethnic minorities. The province sets a target that, all poor and near-poor households in these communities will receive timely access to social welfare policies, improving both their material and spiritual well-being in the coming time./.
