Ethnic minority sports festival to open in mid-September
The 6th national sports festival for
ethnic minorities in 20 northern and central cities and provinces will
be opened in the mountainous northern province of Yen Bai from
September 18-23.

Addressing a press conference in Hanoi on September 15, the festival’s organising board said the tournament aims to develop the movement of physical training to improve people’s health and spiritual life.
A total of 650 athletes, who come from 14 ethnic minorities, will compete in men’s football, men’s and women’s volleyball, cross-country running, stick pushing, tug-of-war and crossbow shooting. The event in Yen Bai will include Con throwing--a traditional game of the Tay and Nung groups.
The next sports festival for ethnic minorities will be held in the mountainous northern province of Dien Bien in 2011./.
