Brussels (VNA) – The European Council on Foreign Relations agreed to strengthen work with Asian partners, including China, India, Japan, the Republic of Korea and ASEAN nations, to promote global security and enhanced security in Asia at a meeting on May 28.

The council noted there is huge potential to bolster cooperation with its partners, including ASEAN member states.

Key areas for deeper security engagement are marine security, cyber space security, counter terrorism, hybrid threats, violent conflict prevention, the proliferation of chemical, biological and nuclear weapons and development of regional cooperative orders.

The council stressed the need for security cooperation in and with Asian partners to become more operational. To bring increased visibility and impact, the council called for tailor-made cooperation, grouping EU security-related efforts with those of priority Asian partners.-VNA
