- Historic and legal proof affirming Vietnam’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos is being highlighted at an exhibition, which opened on January 7 at the Southeastern Armed Forces Museum in Ho Chi Minh City.

On the display are 100 maps alongside various valuable documents which were discovered and collected by both domestic and foreign researchers, including Chinese scholars.

Copies of official documents issued by feudal regimes from 16th century record Vietnam’s constant process of establishing, exercising and safeguarding sovereignty of the Truong Sa and Hoang Sa archipelagoes as well as other islands and waters in Vietnam’s territory.

Notably, the exhibition also includes publications from western countries during the 18th and 19th century, reflecting Vietnam’s sovereignty over the two archipelagos.

In addition, photos and materials featuring economic development and cultural activities on the Truong Sa island district are also being showcased at the event.

According to Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Bac Son, the exhibition is crucial to enhance patriotism, solidarity and responsibility of Vietnamese people in protecting national sovereignty.

It also helps international friends gain a deeper understanding of Vietnam’s history and desire to maintain peace and stability in the East Sea as well as in the region, he added.

The exhibition will run until January 21.-VNA
