Berlin (VNA) – The FrankenVietnamese Buddhist Cultural Centre recently held a requiem at Vinh Nghiempagoda in Germany’s Nürnberg city to commemorate 64 soldiers who laid down theirlives to defend Gac Ma (Johnson South) Reef in Vietnam’s Truong Sa archipelagoon March 14, 1988.
The requiem was also designed topray for national peace and commemorate Vietnamese soldiers who sacrificed todefend national independence and territorial integrity.
Lam Quang Ngoc, a representative ofthe Franken Vietnamese Buddhist Cultural Centre, recalled the sacrifice of thesoldiers in Gac Ma battle, during which 64 soldiers laid down their lives, 11others were injured and three naval ships were sunk.
He affirmed that the Vietnamesecommunity in Germany always bear in mind the soldiers’ sacrifice and arewilling to join hands with overseas Vietnamese around the world to protect thehome country’s sovereignty.
Earlier, a similar requiem wasalso held at Tu An pagoda in Germany’s Berlin capital.-VNA
