The Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) will hold its 7 th national congress from September 28-30 at the International Convention Centre in Hanoi , a VFF Central Committee official said on September 15.

Its purpose is to “enhance the role of the VFF, promote democracy, improve social consensus, build up national solidarity to keep the nation strong and to enable people’s prosperity in a just, democratic and civilised society,” VFF Central Committee Deputy President cum General Secretary Vu Trong Kim said.

The congress will be the first to gather VFF committees from across the country, both at central and grassroots levels.

Some 1,300 delegates will join the convention, of which 989 are official delegates from VFF committees nationwide and the remaining are representatives of local enterprises and foreign delegations.

Of the delegates, over 26 percent are from ethnic minorities, 16 percent are from religious groups and over 48 percent are non-party members.

The congress will be attended by delegates from China ’s People’s Political Consultative Conference, the Laos Front for National Construction, the Cambodian Front for National Solidarity and Development, the Cuban Revolutionary Protection Committee and representatives of foreign embassies in Vietnam and domestic and international non-governmental organisations./.
