Festival held to promote colourful Da Lat in winter
Street-located
arrangements of flowers brightened up Da Lat city, the Central Highlands
province of Lam Dong, which is in the dull grey of winter, on December
23 in a festival to wrap up the National Tourism Year of Central
Highlands – Da Lat 2014.
The festival themed “Da Lat –
Colors of winter”, the last festive event of the year, was highlighted
by a collection of flowers, such as pansy, daisy and pink aster, mingled
with 150 wooden folk statues made by craftsmen from Lam Dong, Gia Lai,
Kon Tum, Dak Lak provinces to represent the city of four seasons of
flowers.
Another flower exhibition took place at the
city’s Flower Garden to introduce hundreds of signature flowers of the
cold land, including orchids, lilies, roses, daisies and carnations,
which made Da Lat a “city of thousands flowers”.
In
addition, market day stores were placed in Nguyen Van Cu Street, selling
flowers and eye-catching fruits and vegetables grown in Da Lat, such as
beetroots, baby cucumbers, salads and strawberry trees in pot, for the
upcoming New Year holiday.
A series of tours were also
designed on the occasion to take tourists to local famous flower
villages – Thai Phien, Ha Dong, and Van Thanh or to visit ethnic
minority people and explore their daily lives and culture.
Da Lat is Vietnam’s most famous resort city which is surrounded
by a series of pine-covered hills, lakes, higher peaks and many
buildings in French architectural style.
During this
year’s festive season, the city is resplendent with hundreds of flowers
blooming either side of steeping paved paths and Christmas decorations
in every corner./.
