The first biennial Vietnam Golden Rice Ear Awards took place in Hanoi on November 14 to honour outstanding products which have contributed importantly to agricultural and rural development.
Coinciding with the 67th anniversary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (November 14), this year’s event selected 56 winners from more than 300 entries under three main groups including useful inventions, scientific research projects; plant and animal breeds, agricultural equipment and handicrafts; and reputable agricultural brand names.
The winners included an intensive rice farming model by the Plant Protection Agency, the Khang Dan mutant rice variety of the Central Rice Seed Joint Stock Company, and urea fertiliser of the Ha Bac Fertiliser and Chemicals Company.
So far this year, Vietnam has exported over 6.6 million tonnes of rice, earning 3 billion USD for the country, according to the Vietnam Food Association.
Depending on new contracts signed in November, rice export volume is expected to hit 7.7 million tonnes in 2012, the highest figure ever recorded over the past 20 years.-VNA
