First nature film festival in Vietnam to take place this month

The Spanish Embassy on September 20 hosted an event to introduce the first environmental film festival featuring international and local films and conversations on sustainability and harmony with nature in Vietnam, which is scheduled to run from September 23 to October 7.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Spanish Embassy on September20 hosted an event to introduce the first environmental film festival featuring international and local films andconversations on sustainability and harmony with nature in Vietnam, which isscheduled to run from September 23 to October 7.

Held in response to the UN General Assembly (UNGA)’s ClimateWeek this year (September 19-25), the film festival, entitled  "#It’s Time To Act -A Nature Film Festival in Vietnam", is coordinated by the embassy and sees the participation of 14 countries, including Belgium, Brazil,Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Norway, Peru, Venezuela, Spain, the UK and Vietnam.

Addressing the event, Spanish Ambassador to Vietnam María Del Pilar Méndez Jiménez said the embassy ishonoured to work with institutions, civil societies, individuals, and theenvironmental communities of participating nations from three continents topromote international cooperation in raising awareness of a sustainable futureand pooling the message of Only One Earth.

Trang Nguyen, founder of WildAct Vietnam, a partner in organising the festival, believed it will make impact on youths and connectpeople to act for the environment.

The festival will screen in a hybrid format 17 featurefilms, documentaries, and short films with subtitles in Vietnamese.

It will be open free for the public at five venues in Hanoiand Ho Chi Minh City./.

Vietnamese pheasants successfully hatched at Belgian zoo

The chicks were born at Pairi Daiza’s Oasis greenhouse following a carefully monitored breeding and care programme. According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the Vietnamese pheasant is classified as Critically Endangered and may already be extinct in the wild.

Hoai stressed that protecting the environment is a shared responsibility of authorities, businesses, organisations and citizens, calling on the public to adopt practical measures such as reducing litter, limiting single-use plastics, conserving resources, planting trees and sorting waste at source.

In the appeal, the VFF Central Committee's Presidium noted that environmental protection has been identified by the Party and State as a strategic priority. The 14th National Party Congress highlighted the need to harmonise economic, cultural and social development with environmental protection and improvements in living standards.

Rare elongated tortoise released into the wild in Dong Nai

The elongated tortoise is one of the most beautiful and rare terrestrial tortoise species, listed in both the Vietnam Red Data Book and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species. It typically inhabits tropical and subtropical forests and plays an important role in maintaining ecological balance. However, due to illegal trade and habitat loss, its wild population has been declining sharply.
