First private general hospital in Quang Ngai inaugurated

Quang Ngai (VNA) –
The first phase ofthe Phuc Hung private general hospital was inaugurated and put into operationin Quang Ngai on March 3.

The construction of the hospital, the first ofits kind in the south central province, was divided into two phases. 

The first one commenced in the third quarter of2014 on an area of 3,700 square metres and with total investment of 150 billionVND (6.4 million USD).

The second one will be implemented in 2019 withtotal cost of 300 billion VND.

The seven-storey hospital now has 45 standardbeds and 11 departments.

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’sCommittee Dang Ngoc Dung said the hospital will help ease the overload at publichealth facilities and provide more high-quality healthcare services forlocals.-VNA

Sharp tobacco tax hike urged to safeguard youths, community health

A 2023 report by the Vietnam Health Economics Association estimated that the total cost of tobacco-related healthcare and economic losses reached 108 trillion VND (4.14 billion USD) annually – equivalent to 1.14% of GDP and five times higher than the budget revenue generated by the tobacco industry.

Vietnam, France collaborate in vaccine production technology transfer

Under the agreement, VNVC and Sanofi will gradually implement technology transfers to enable domestic production of several key Sanofi vaccines that are widely used in Vietnam. In addition, Sanofi will support VNVC in training human resources and quality management in vaccine research and manufacturing.

Enhanced anti-COVID-19 measures in place amid rising cases
