Fish trap weaving – An unique traditional job in Northern Delta region

Fish basket trap weaving in Thu Sy Commune, Tien Lu District of Hung Yen Province has strongly developed in Noi Lang and Tat Vien hamlets, accounting for up to 50 per cent of local people’s income.

Fish basket trap weaving in Thu Sy Commune, Tien Lu District of Hung Yen Province has strongly developed in Noi Lang and Tat Vien hamlets, accounting for up to 50 per cent of local people’s income.

Local residents often weave fish and shrimp traps after working on their farms. This is a traditional job and all production activities are hand-made.

Main materials are bamboo taken from mountainous areas. The bamboo will be cleaved in different sizes depending on each kind of products. An experienced weaver can weave nearly 10 traps per day.

When the traps are complete, they are hung upstairs the kitchen to make them dry quickly, resistant to woodworms and increase their durability./.
