Located along the upper branches of the Mekong River in Vietnam, An Giang is the first province in the region to welcome the annual flooding season, seen as a gift from heaven, bringing tonnes of fish into the paddy fields along with alluvial deposits to fertilize the next crop. A couple rows their boat to pick up white water lilies in Vinh Te commune, Chau Doc town near the Cambodian border. The white water lilies are also called 'ghost flowers' because they only bloom at night. Water lillies are a present that Mother Nature has given to poor Khmer locals in An Giang. They grow in old reservoirs, with stems of around 2 – 5 metres and white and purple flowers. (Photo: vnexpress.net)
