
HCM City (VNA) - Aflyover leading to both the domestic and international terminals at Tan Son NhatInternational Airport in Ho Chi Minh City opened to traffic early on July 3 inthe presence of the city’s leaders.
The Y-shapedsteel structure rises from Truong Son Street in Tan Binh district beforeforking towards the two terminals and is expected to ease the congestionthat has for long been plaguing the roads around Vietnam’s busiest airport.
The branchesleading to the domestic and international terminals are respectively 150m and300m.
The construction,begun last February, was completed two months ahead of schedule.
The 7.5m-wideflyover cost 242 billion VND (10.66 million USD).
Also on July 3,one branch of another major flyover near the airport opened to traffic afterfour months of construction, also two months ahead of schedule.
The eponymousflyover, starting at the Nguyen Thai Son roundabout in Go Vap district, willhave three branches when fully finished: Hoang Minh Giam Street – Nguyen Thai SonStreet (362.8m); Nguyen Kiem – Nguyen Thai Son (367.7m); and Nguyen Kiem – HoangMinh Giam (367.7m).
Vehicles wereallowed to use the Hoang Minh Giam – Nguyen Thai Son branch on July 3, and theother two are expected to be finished by year-end.
The total cost isprojected at 504 billion VND (22.17 million USD).
Located less than2km from the airport, this flyover is also expected to smooth traffic aroundit.
Tan Son Nhatreceives 32.5 million passengers a year, much higher than its designed capacityof 25 million.-VNA
