Foreign Ministry spokesperson: Vietnamese in Uzbekistan to be flown home

Vietnamese authorities and the Embassy of Vietnam in Russia that is also in charge of Uzbekistan are working closely with host authorities to bring Vietnamese citizens in Uzbekistan home at the earliest possible time.

Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnamese authorities and the Embassy of Vietnamin Russia that is also in charge of Uzbekistan are working closely with hostauthorities to bring Vietnamese citizens in Uzbekistan home at the earliestpossible time.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang made the statement inreply to queries from reporters during a regular press conference in Hanoi onAugust 20.

Regarding a recent joint Vietnam - US investigation that led to the arrestof several Vietnamese citizens for trade fraud, Hang said police in Hanoi and departmentsof the Ministry of Public Security detained and launched legal proceedingsagainst four persons on charges of asset appropriation, based on informationprovided by the US.

Vietnamese authorities are expanding investigations and dealing with thecase in line with Vietnamese law, she said.

She added that theGovernment advocates the prevention of trade fraud and imposes strictpenalties. It appreciates the cooperation of US authorities in the case./.

AIC case in Ca Mau: Nguyen Thi Thanh Nhan sentenced to 10 years in prison

The People's Court of Ca Mau province on August 12 sentenced former Chairwoman and General Director of the Advanced International Joint Stock Company (AIC) Nguyen Thi Thanh Nhan to ten years in prison for "violating bidding regulations, causing serious consequences" in a case involving the inflation of equipment prices for environmental monitoring stations in the former Bac Lieu province (now Ca Mau province).
