Prolonged dry weather and droughts have been putting forests in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau at high-risk of large-scale fires.

Therefore, the province is on top alert, undertaking extensive measures to prevent forest fires during the dry season.

The provincial authorities have asked all forest rangers and local people to participate in forest protection and firefighting activities.

More than 200 military officers are staying ready for firefighting in case a blaze occurs.

The province has also organised campaigns to teach locals how to stop fires spreading.

During the dry season beginning in October last year, 11 small blazes occured, burning 6 hectares of forests in the province.-VNA
