At the court (Photo: VNA) Linh, absent at the court for health reasons, was accused of receiving 5 billion VND (220,000 USD) from former Chairman of the Bac Nam 79Construction JSC Phan Van Anh Vu.
According to the indictment, in mid-2017, Vu was underinvestigation for violations in a case of intentionally leaking State secrets,along with other illegal acts related to the purchase, sale and transfer ofpublic houses and land in the central city of Da Nang and other localities.
Vu tried to contact with Linh through Hoa for help andinformation related to the cases. Later, Vu fled to Singapore after beinginformed by Linh that he could be detained and prosecuted.
Investigators found that Linh received a bribe worth 5billion VND through Hoa from Vu
As a result, Vu was imprisoned 7 years and 6 months for theoffense of bribes, bringing his total punishment being served to 30 years inprison. Meanwhile, Hoa received a prison term of 2 years 7 months 25 days,However, Hoa had finished serving his prison sentence as his jail term beganfrom March 12, 2019. So the court announced his release at the trial.
In addition, the jury also ordered Linh to pay 5 billion VND to the state fund. The jury noted that Linh had paid that amount on November 5.
The jury assessed that the acts of the defendants wereparticularly serious, cause bad public opinion in society, and need to beseverely punished to warn and deter, especially for corruption-relatedcriminals./.
