Hanoi (VNA) – Nguyen Van Hien, former Deputy Minister ofNational Defence and former Commander of the Vietnam People’s Navy, wassentenced to four years in prison for his role in a case of violations of navalland management regulations.
At the trial, which beganon May 18, the Military Court of the Vietnam People’s Navy gave Hien the prisonterm for “lack ofresponsibility causing serious consequences.”
Meanwhile, Dinh Ngoc He, Deputy Director General of the Thai Son Corporation under theMinistry of National Defence, and Chairman and General Director of the Thai SonDevelopment and Investment JSC, was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Taking intoaccount his previous sentences, He will have to serve a total 30 years.
Other defendants were given prison terms from 4 to 15 years.
The judging council said the acts of the defendants resulted inthe Navy losing the management right of three land lots in Ho Chi Minh Citywith total value of more than 939 billion VND.
At its 12th plenum last week, the PartyCentral Committee considered and decided upon a disciplinary measure againstHien - expelling him from the Party./.
