Forum discusses green growth among business community

Hanoi (VNA) – Representatives of enterprises and publicagencies joined a forum in Hanoi on March 12, exchanging experience and sharingmeasures to protect the environment and achieve sustainable growth.

Speaking at the event, Chu Thai Thanh, editor-in-chief ofthe Tai nguyen va Moi truong (natural resources & environment) magazine,highlighted the promotion of clean energy, clean production and cleanconsumption as a constant requirement in Vietnam’s development strategy.

Playing an important role in such process, the businesscommunity should boost their awareness on environmental protection,particularly in the exploitation of natural resources, he added.

Their work can contribute to realizing the goal of havingbetween 95 and 100 percent of economic wastewater properly treated by 2020,Thanh said.

Nguyen The Chinh, head of the Institute of Strategy andPolicy on Natural Resources and Environment, noted international economic integrationand a change in consumer’s awareness and behavior in favour of environmentalprotection have created both pressure and motivation for firms to carry outtheir social responsibility toward the environment.

Many have invested in eco-friendly technologies, whileothers are yet to be aware of the importance of the matter, he said.

According to Chinh, being environmentally friendly helpsenterprises boost competitiveness, enter foreign markets, and ensuresustainable growth.-VNA

Rare turtles returned to Vietnam under CITES

The shipment includes several endangered Vietnamese species such as the Indochinese box turtle (Cuora galbinifrons), Bourret’s box turtle (Cuora bourreti), keeled box turtle (Cuora mouhotii), and black-breasted leaf turtle (Geoemyda spengleri), all considered highly endangered and increasingly threatened in the wild by habitat destruction, poaching, and illegal trade.

Nghe An residents voluntarily hand over rare pangolins for conservation

On May 11, the Quy Chau Forest Protection Department, along with local police and authorities, took in a critically endangered pangolin, handed over by a resident. The animal was discovered a day earlier by Thai Doan Tuan, from Viet Huong village in Quy Chau commune, after it wandered into his garden. Recognising it as a protected Sunda pangolin, he contacted authorities for assistance.
