Four more deaths related to COVID-19 were announced on July 6 morning, all of them elderly women with serious underlying health issues in Hanoi, Nghe An, Ha Tinh and Ho Chi Minh City.

Hanoi (VNA) - Four more deaths related to COVID-19 were announced on July 6morning, all of them elderly women with serious underlying health issues in Hanoi,Nghe An, Ha Tinh and Ho Chi Minh City.

Thetotal COVID-19 fatalities have reached 94, according to the Treatment Sub-committeeof the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control.

The91st death is a 71-year-old woman in Vinh city, the central province of Nghe An,with Type 2 diabetes, hypertension, osteoarthritis, and Cushing's syndrome.

Shewas admitted to the Nghe An Friendship General Hospital on June 23, withdiagnosis of pneumonia caused by SARS-CoV-2 in patients with hypertension, type2 diabetes, Cushing’s syndrome.

Shedied on July 5, with official cause of death registered as septic shock,multiple organ failure, severe pneumonia due to COVID-19 with respiratoryfailure, in a patient with hypertension, type 2 diabetes, osteoarthritis,Cushing's syndrome.

The92nd fatality was a 62-year-old woman in Thu Duc city of HCM City, with ahistory of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and chronicatrial fibrillation (A-fib).

Shewas brought to the HCM City Hospital for Tropical Diseases on June 30, the sameday she tested positive for COVID-19, with the diagnosis of pneumonia caused bySARS-CoV-2 with respiratory failure in a patient with hypertension, type 2diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and heart failure.

Thewoman died three days later, on July 3, and the official cause of death waslogged as pulmonary embolism, septic shock, pneumonia caused by SARS-CoV-2complications (respiratory failure), in a patient with hypertension, type 2diabetes, chronic kidney disease, chronic A-fib.

A97-year-old woman in the central province of Ha Tinh with persistenthypertension was the country’s 93rd death related to CVOID-19.

OnJune 5, she tested positive for coronavirus and was placed under care at CauTreo International Border Gate General Hospital, with increasingcoughing and breathing difficulties.

Thenext day, she was transferred to the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases inHanoi, with a diagnosis of pneumonia caused by SARS-CoV-2 in a patient withhypertension.

Shepassed away a month later – on July 4, with official cause of death registeredas septic shock, pneumonia caused by SARS-CoV-2, right thigh abscess, andhypertension.

The94th death was a 62-year-old woman from Ha Dong district, Hanoi.

Thepatient was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in February 2021 (doctorsindicated surgery but the patient refused, and requested to go home forself-treatment with Vietnamese herbal medicines), hypertension,and diabetes.

Thewoman was being treated at the Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Department of theNational Cancer Hospital (Tan Trieu campus) in Hanoi, with the officialdiagnosis as invasive pancreatic carcinoma and SARS-CoV-2 infection.

OnMay 8, 2021, the patient was transferred to the National Hospital for TropicalDiseases for treatment, with the diagnosis of pneumonia caused by SARS-CoV-2 ina patient with pancreatic metastases in the liver and lungs, hypertension.

Shedied on July 5, with official cause of death logged as septic shock, pneumoniacaused by SARS-CoV-2, liver and lung metastases from pancreatic cancer,hypertension, and diabetes.

Thelatest four victims brought the death count in Vietnam’s ongoing severe fourthwave of infections since late April this year to 59./.

Vietnam performs first awake brain surgery on child patient

The hospital announced on May 19 that the patient, a 12-year-old boy, recovered well after surgery, remained fully conscious and showed no new focal neurological deficits. Post-operative imaging indicated that the tumour had been almost completely removed. Doctors are continuing close monitoring and preparing further treatment plans to support the child’s full recovery.
