The German Government will provide an additional 7 million EUR to help Vietnam’s socio-economic development.

Visiting German Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development Dirk Niebel announced the assistance in Hanoi on Mar. 8.

According to the Ministry of Planning and Investment, Germany has shifted the focus of its aid to large-scale infrastructure projects. Noteworthy was the construction of the metro line No. 2 in Ho Chi Minh City .

Additionally, projects on mitigation of climate change in the Mekong Delta, bio-diversity preservation, urban development and waste water and waste treatment also received priorities from the German Government.

Minister Dirk Niebel is leading a delegation in a visit to Vietnam , the first high-level one of the German Government to Vietnam in 2010, the year that the two countries celebrate the 35 th anniversary of diplomatic ties.

The two countries also chose 2010 as the “German Year in Vietnam ” and the “Vietnamese Year in Germany ”./.
