A delegation from the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) headed by Deputy General Director Dinh Dang Quang has presented a house and Lunar New Year (Tet) gifts to ethnic minority people in the central province of Quang Binh.
The 70 million VND (3,290 USD) house was gifted to orphan sisters Ho Thi Liec and Ho Xay in Ngan Thuy commune, Le Thuy district by the VNA Trade Union, Le Thuy district People’s Committee and Hanoi-based Hung Binh company.
The VNA delegations also presented 260 Tet gift packages to ethnic minority households in Quang Binh.
Meanwhile, Minister of Education and Training Pham Vu Luan handed over 330 million VND (14,100 USD) as aid to teachers and students from poor background in the northern mountainous province of Bac Kan.
Besides, he presented 20 tonnes of rice to ethnic schools in the northern provinces of Bac Kan, Lao Cai, Yen Bai and Dien Bien.
In the central province of Quang Nam, the provincial Red Cross Society handed over 60 breeding cows worth over 1 billion USD (47,000 USD) to the poor in the border district of Nam Giang.
The activity was part of the “cow bank” project launched by the Vietnam Red Cross Society. First calves born by the one-year old and vaccinated cows are expected to be handed over to other households to help them improve income.
So far, the Quang Nam Red Cross Society has given nearly 170 breeding cows valued at 2.2 billion VND (103,400 USD) to locals, while seven calves have been handed over to other families.
In the future, the society plans to offer 120 additional cows to poor ethnic minority households in Tay Giang and Nam Tra My mountainous districts.-VNA
