Hanoi (VNA) – The Government is determined tomaintain the trust it has received from people and the whole political systemsince it began the 14th tenure nearly 10 months ago, Prime Minister Nguyen XuanPhuc has said.

He made the remark at the Cabinet’s regularmeeting for January on February 3, asking all sectors and authorities at alllevels to immediately get down to work after the freshly concluded week-longLunar New Year (Tet) holiday.

The Cabinet will push ahead with building anincorruptible, facilitating and action-oriented Government to serve people andenterprises, he stressed, noting that it will continue implementing Resolution35 on developing the business community and Resolution 19 on improving thebusiness climate.

He asked for fostering hi-tech agriculture amidincreasing climate change impacts, protecting the environment during economicdevelopment, and inclusive growth.

Each Government member needs to carry outhis/her tasks in a more drastic manner while giving directions with regard toglobal changes such as the resurgence of protectionism and nationalism. Theyshould pay heed to difficulties caused by unpredictable natural disasters totake appropriate measures for ensuring people’s livelihoods, he added.

At the meeting, Minister-Chairman of theGovernment Office Mai Tien Dung said goods supplies for Tet with stable pricesand good quality satisfied consumption demand. Meanwhile, the crackdown on smugglingramped up prior to Tet has controlled counterfeits.

On the occasion of Tet, local authorities sentthe State President’s gifts worth over 431 billion VND (19 million USD) to morethan 2 million national contributors and delivered 14,114 tonnes of rice tomore than 297,000 needy families. Localities also spent over 1 trillion VND(44.2 million USD) from their budget to assist disadvantaged people during Tet.

Dung said although serious congestions did notoccur, there were 368 traffic accidents during Tet from January 26 to February1, killing 203 and injuring 417 others. These numbers respectively increased by84, 21 and 142 from the Lunar New Year holiday of 2016.

Regarding the issue, PM Phuc said the entirepolitical system joined hands in ensuring a peaceful and healthy Tet for peoplenationwide, especially low-income earners, and policy beneficiary families.However, he expressed concerns about the rise of road accidents.

The Cabinet chief requested all-levelauthorities and sectors, especially culture, sports and tourism agencies toensure security and order at spring festivals. He also underlined thatofficials and civil servants must not participate in festivals during workhours or use public cars to go to festivals.

At the session, participants also discussed adraft decree on goods, services and areas that are monopolized by the State, adraft law on forest protection and development, and a draft programme on lawand ordinance making for 2018.-VNA
