Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnamese Grandmaster Le Quang Liem has entered the world’s top 20 for the first time in his career in this week’s ranking.

Liem’s seventh finish at the recent prestigious Tradewide Gibraltar event which gathered world’s 20 strongest masters gave him enough points to take his highest position of 20 with Elo 2,735 points.

It is also the first time Vietnam has a competitor in this leading group.

The former world blitz chess champion will next play in the Aeroflot Open, which he has won twice earlier, in Russia this month and the annual HD Bank Cup in Hanoi next month.-VNA
