Hanoi (VNA) – Hanoi authoritiesextended Christmas greetings to parishioners in the city on December 20.

At a meeting with Bishop John Vu Tat of Hung HoaDiocese in Le Loi ward, Son Tay town, Standing Vice Secretary of the municipalParty Committee Ngo Thi Thanh Hang acknowledged the significant contributionsof Catholic dignitaries, priests and followers to the city’s socio-economic andcultural development in 2016.

She expressed her hope that the Catholics will continue to actively engage inlocal activities with a view to making the city more beautiful and civilised.

Meanwhile, Vice Secretary of the municipal PartyCommittee and Chairwoman of the People’s Council Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoccongratulated Catholic dignitaries and followers at the Bac Ninh Diocese on theoccasion of Christmas.

She noted that in 2016, the city recorded thehighest economic growth rate in six years, reaching and surpassing allsocio-economic development targets. These achievements were remarkablycontributed by religious followers and Catholics in particular.

Bishop of the Bac Ninh Diocese Hoang Van Datpledged to encourage parishioners to abide by the Party’s policies and the State’slaw and make more contributions to the capital development.

The same day, Nguyen Lan Huong, head of thecity’s mass mobilisation department, also presented gifts to Catholics inPhuong Trung commune, Thanh Oai district.-VNA

Education-training sector preparing for strategic turning point: Minister

Ho Chi Minh City steps up law enforcement on fishing vessel monitoring system

Ho Chi Minh City has 4,449 fishing vessels, of them 4,301 equipped with VMS devices, making up 96.67%. Between January 1, 2024, and December 31, 2025, authorities found 1,729 cases of vessels losing VMS connection for six hours or more, issuing fines in 196 cases totalling nearly 6.6 billion VND (about 252,000 USD)
