Authorities of the Hanoi People’s Committee and the municipal Labour Union have dialogued with workers in eight industrial and export processing zones on solutions to better their living conditions.
At the talks, which took place at Me Linh Plaza in the outskirts district of Me Linh on May 16, 100 workers representing over 135,000 workers in these zones voices issues mainly on their rights and interests, social insurance, and accommodation.
Slow social insurance payment, high house rental, as well as a lack of kindergartens, schools and entertainment areas for their children, and hospitals in their workplace concerned the workers much.
Meanwhile, representatives of enterprises raised the issues on traffic jams after work, lighting systems on roads linking with the industrial parks, unscheduled power cut, administrative procedures and waste treatment.
Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Van Suu said the city is building a 1,000-bed hospital and upgrading another with 200 beds in Me Linh district to meet increasing demands of local people and workers.
The city has assigned the Transport Department to build flyovers connecting with industrial zones to deal with traffic jam and insecurity after work and suggested the electric sector informing enterprises of scheduled power cuts in advance to minimize any adverse impacts on their production.
During the period 2011-2015, Hanoi aims to attract 2-2.5 billion USD in FDI into its industrial parks or about 400-500 million USD on annual average.-VNA
