Attending the event were Vice President of the Vietnam Union ofFriendship Organisations (VUFO) Nguyen Van Kien, Permanent VicePresident of the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Organisation Nguyen Duy Cuongand Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Fredesman Turro Gonzalez among others.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice President of theVietnam-Cuba Friendship Organisation Nguyen Duy Cuong congratulatedCuban people on achievements they have made in the past.

He expressed his belief that under the leadership of the CommunistParty of Cuba, Cuban people will harvest greater achievements in theeconomic model update.

He also spoke highly of thedevelopment of the traditional friendship and solidarity, andcomprehensive cooperation between the two countries in recent years,which were reflected by regular visits by high-ranking leaders.

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s recent visit helped furtherstrengthen the fraternity and solidarity between Vietnam and Cuba ,he noted.

Cuban Military Attaché Jose RolandoCastro thanked the Vietnamese Party, State and people for their strongsupport and valuable solidarity for Cuban people over the past years.

Earlier, a similar ceremony was also held in Ho Chi Minh City to celebrate the great victory of Cuba .

Over 50 years ago, more than 1,500 US-trained mercenary troops landedat Giron beach as part of a scheme to overthrow the fledgling Cubangovernment. Under the direct command of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro,the invasion was repelled on April 19, 1961 after less than 72 hours.-VNA
