Hanoi (VNA) - New vehicle parking fees for Hanoi have been published and will take effect from January 1, according to local authorities.
Motorbike and electric bike parking fees will rise to 3,000 VND (0.1 USD) to 8,000 VND (0.3 USD) per vehicle.
Parking fees for cars with fewer than nine seats and trucks below two tonnes will be 10,000 VND (0.6 USD) to 30,000 VND (1.3 USD) per car per hour, depending on the parking location.
The fee for cars with more than 10 seats and trucks over two tonnes varies from 12,500 VND (0.5 USD) to 35,000 VND (1.5 USD) per car per hour.
Monthly parking fees for both days and nights for cars with fewer than nine seats on streets in the city centre will be up to 3 million - 4 million VND (130-174 USD) per car.
For vehicle parking services invested in with a non-State budget at apartment buildings and trade centres, the investors will determine the parking fees; however, they must not be higher than the fees regulated by the city’s authorities.
Nguyen Khanh Linh, a Hanoian, said the new parking fees are reasonable as the street and pavement usage fees have increased. However, she expected the fees to be displayed publicly in parking lots so that people are not overcharged.
Hoang The Trung, an officer who drives to work every day, said, “Because my office does not have space to park cars, I have to find a nearby parking lot. The new car parking fee per hour on streets in the city centre is too high. Eight hours of parking per day costs me nearly 300,000 VND (13 USD).”
Earlier this month, the Hanoi People’s Council approved a People’s Committee proposal to increase street and pavement usage fees by up to 300 percent. The hike in the vehicle parking fee followed this decision.
Vu Van Vien, director of Hanoi’s Department of Transport, said the changes in the vehicle parking fees are intended to limit personal means of transport, especially in the core areas of the capital city. - VNA
