Hanoi (VNA) – The Hanoi People’s Courthas approved the conditional release of 34 prisoners ahead of schedule.
The decision was announced by the city’s police ata meeting on August 15. The document was signed off by the court on August 1 asproposed by the municipal Department of Public Security.
Deputy Director of the department Col. NguyenVan Vien said those inmates had shown good conduct and met other requirements.
The conditional release was considered in aserious and transparent manner and strictly adhered to legal regulations, hesaid, adding that it reflects the Vietnamese Party and State’s amnesty policyand the country’s humanitarian tradition.
Conditional release of prisoners ahead ofschedule is stipulated in the revised 2015 Penal Code, which took effect this year.
This is a new judicial measure in theenforcement of prison sentences as the eligible prisoners will no longer haveto complete their penalties at detention centres but be managed and re-educatedby local administration and police.–VNA
