Beijing (VNA) – A high-ranking delegation from Hanoi led by Deputy Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Nguyen Van Phong is paying a working visit to China from May 15-24.

At a meeting with Liu Wei, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Beijing and President of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee School, on May 16, Phong said that Hanoi has always paid great attention to developing friendship and cooperation with all localities of China, especially Beijing.

He thanked Beijing for supporting the organisation of training courses for officials for the Hanoi Party Committee in the 2025-2030 tenure on the basis of the memorandum of understanding between the the Hanoi Party Committee’s Organisation Commission and the Beijing Municipal Party Committee School.

Phong highly valued the relations between Vietnam and China in general, as well as the partnership between Hanoi and Beijing in particular, expressing his hope that the Hanoi-Bejing relationship will become a model in the locality-to-locality cooperation between the two countries.

Briefing the host on Hanoi’s socio-economic situation, he said that during this visit, the delegation aims to learn Beijing’s experience in preserving and promoting values of heritages, developing cultural industries, and local press management.

Phong proposed a number of future cooperation orientations between the two cities, including maintaining bilateral exchanges and meetings at all levels and expanding collaboration in culture. Hanoi asked for Beijing’s assistance to the Thang Long – Hanoi Heritage Conservation Centre in restoring ancient palaces serving the research, conservation and promotion of values of the Thang Long Imperial Citadel World Heritage, focusing on restoring Kinh Thien palace.

At the same time, the two sides should strengthen partnership in personnel training, while working together to increase communications on the significance of the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic partnership and the Hanoi-Beijing relations through people-to-people exchange activities, especially for youngsters, he said.

Phong also underlined the need for the two cities to bolster bilateral economic and investment partnership. Hanoi welcomes and backs Beijing’s enterprises to invest and expand operation in the city, especially in new areas such as digital transformation, green growth, renewable energy, circular economy, and environmental protection.

He took the occasion to invite leaders of the Party Committee and administration of Beijing to visit Hanoi in October on the occasion of the 30-year partnership between the two cities and the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Liberation Day of Hanoi.

For his part, Liu said the Hanoi delegation’s visit contributes to realising the common perceptions reached between leaders of the two cities and expanding the cooperation between the two sides.

He held that Beijing and Hanoi boast great potential and conditions to strengthen their friendship for common benefit. Beijing agreed to work with Hanoi to make bilateral ties deeper.

Agreeing with Phong’s proposals, Liu suggested that the two cities focus on strengthening collaboration through the Party channel, exchanging experience in city governance, maintaining exchanges and boosting cooperation in economy, digital transformation, training, youth exchange, and expanding partnership to new areas such as culture, communications, and tourism.

The two sides concurred to continue promoting bilateral relationship, making it a model in locality-to-locality cooperation between Vietnam and China.
