The residents will be resettled atapartment buildings in Long Bien district's Viet Hung Urban Area, saidLam Quoc Hung, Vice Chairman of the Hoan Kiem district People'sCommittee.
By 2020, the project will resettle 6,500 households, according to the Hoan Kiem district People's Committee.
Theproject aims to decrease the population density from 823 people per hain 2010 to 500 in 2020, improve living conditions and preserve heritagesites in the Old Quarter.
Hung said that the city will move thefirst 1,500 households to the resettlement area after the constructionfinished by the end of 2017. Among them, 533 households with 1,856residents are forced to move because they are living in heritage sites,government agencies or school areas. The rest of the households will beencouraged to move.
He said that each household will be given30sq.m in a resettlement apartment and will have to rent or buy the restof the apartment. Those not wanting to move to resettlement apartmentswill be compensated for handing over their houses to local authoritieswith an additional 100 million VND (4,700 USD).
The resettlementarea, which cost the city 5 trillion VND (238 million USD), includes 16eight to nine-storey apartment buildings and a 15-storey complex with ashopping mall, apartments and public facilities. Resettled residentswill have access to kindergartens, medical centres, walking streets andpublic spaces.
Additionally, 39 percent of resettled householdswill have access to kiosks to sell their products on the ground floorsof all buildings. The kiosks will be arranged into groups of products.-VNA
