Hanoi (VNA) – The Department of Transport of Hanoi has asked its inspectors to stiffen punishments of violating vehicles in order to ensure traffic safety during the Lunar New Year Festival.

The inspectors will collaborate with the police force to handle traffic violations on major routes, rivers and traffic hubs such as railway stations, piers, coach stations, inland wharves and bus stations.

Unsafe vehicles, drivers using alcohol, and drivers who do not have driving licenses and certified certificates will not be allowed to participate in traffic.

Notably, the inspector force will stiffen fines for buses, taxis, and other means of business transportation that travel in the wrong routes, linger in front of hospitals and schools, and drop and pick up passengers in unauthorized locations.

Fines will also be stiffened for fake transporters that gather around railway and coach stations.

To prevent the transporters from illegally dropping and picking up passengers, the department will also send inspectors to be on duty at locations such as Mai Dich bridge (in front of the foreign language university), Pham Hung road (in front of My Dinh coach station's gate), in front of Viglacera building (on Thang Long boulevard), in the intersection of Nguyen Trai – Nguyen Xien – Khuat Duy Tien, in front of Luong Yen coach station's gate, and other locations around major hospitals and shopping centres.

The department has asked transportation businesses to improve their operation capabilities and service quality to serve the needs of passengers, especially those in distant areas.

Specific instructions will be given to drivers who often travel at night, travel on sheer, dangerous slopes and drivers of double-deckers.

Transportation companies should make ticket prices public and sell tickets in accordance with the regulations, without any extra fee.

Nguyen Duc Chung, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee has asked the local authorities to crack down on criminals during the Lunar New Year Festival.

The Hanoi's departments of Commerce, agricultural and rural development, health, and finance will proactively collaborate with the People's Committees of the related districts, wards and communes to examine, control and handle individuals who take advantage of the new year festival to create false rumors and increase product prices.

Other forces will strengthen food safety, virus inspection as well as fighting against commercial frauds, smuggling and the production of low quality products.-VNA
