According to statistics released at the end of 2011, Hanoi is now home to around 7.1 million permanent residents and roughly 2 million temporary residents.

The statistics also indicate that most of Hanoi ’s population is housed in the city’s central districts.

The high population density is one of the main reasons behind the city’s high volume of traffic and congestion.-VNA
