Hanoi (VNA) - Hanoi’s 16th Party Congress for the 2015 – 2020 tenure wound up on November 3.

At the closing session, participants approved the draft resolution of the 16th municipal Party Congress, which specifies the guiding principle for the new tenure as “Enhancing the Party Organisation’s leadership and combating capacity; upholding the cultural and heroic traditions and the strength of the national unity bloc; mobilizing all resources and pushing forward with the cause of renovation, industrialisation and modernisation in a comprehensive and synchronous manner; and building a prosperous, civilised and modern capital city.”

The municipality’s new Party Committee and its 16-member Standing Board made their debut at the session, along with the Hanoi delegation with 61 members to attend the 12th National Party Congress.

The day earlier, the new Party Committee elected four new Vice Secretaries, who are Ngo Thi Thanh Hang, Dao Duc Toan, Nguyen Duc Chung and Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc. Permanent Vice Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee’s 15th tenure Ngo Thi Thanh Hang was re-elected to this position in the new Committee for the 2015-2020 term.

Politburo member Pham Quang Nghi, Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee in the 15th tenure, was assigned to steer the committee pending the 12th National Party Congress.

At a press conference after the congress’ closing, Vice Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Dao Duc Toan announced that the Standing Board of the Hanoi Party Committee agreed to nominate Vice Secretary Nguyen Duc Chung as Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee. The position will be voted on by the municipal People’s Council in line with the law.

Toan, who is also Head of the municipal Party Committee’s Organisation Board, added that 12.2 percent of the members of the new Party Committee are women, up 2.2 percent from the previous tenure. All of the members hold bachelor’s degree while 85 percent have Master’s or doctorate degrees.

However, the rate of young members in the committee is still under expectations.

The 16th municipal Party Congress, commencing on October 31, was attended by 495 official delegates representing 390,000 Party members across Hanoi.-VNA
