HCM City (VNA) – The Vietnam-China Friendship Association of Ho Chi Minh City will better bring into play its role in people-to-people diplomacy so as to help enhance the two countries’ relations, delegates said at its second congress on December 28.

At the congress, the association selected an executive board for the 2017-2022 tenure consisting of 27 members. Duong Quan Ha was re-elected Chairman of the association for the next five years.

Delegates said the association will work harder to help reinforce cooperation, friendship and mutual understanding between the two countries’ people, thereby contributing to the implementation of the Party and State’s foreign policy.

It will also devise fundraising plans to mobilise funding for friendship, charity and social activities, while stepping up popularising the Vietnam – China traditional friendship through diverse activities like workshops, discussions, film screening, exhibitions, exchanges, and business-to-business events.

Vice Chairman of the association Tran Khang Chien said the organisation has continually developed over the past years. It now comprises 10 chapters and has friendship relations with the Chinese Consulate General in HCM City and many partners in some provinces and cities of China.

Mutual visits and meetings between the association and friendship organisations of Chinese localities have greatly help to promote amity and mutual understanding between people of HCM City and China, he added.-VNA
