Ho Chi Minh City callson Russian firms from Saint Petersburg city to share experience in addressingissues in urban building and development such as traffic jam, waste and sewagetreatment, and green energy.

Vice Chairman of the municipal People’sCommittee Le Thanh Liem hosted a reception for a delegation from the Russiancity led by Katanandov Sergey Leonidovich, special envoy of the governor ofSaint Petersburg on issues regarding national building and development andcooperation with Russian agencies.

The guests are on a working visit to Vietnam’ssouthern economic hub from June 27-30.

Liem said the working visit to Saint Petersburgby Secretary of HCM City Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan in May 2018 openedup a new chapter in the bilateral relations in various fields.

The cooperation development roadmap between thetwo cities in 2018-2020 signed in May this year has created a foundation forthe two sides to boost collaborative activities, especially in culture,tourism, and science technology.

It is a proper time for the two localities tobring agreements in the roadmap into practical outcomes, Liem said.

The cooperation agreements between HCM City Universityof Social Sciences and Humanities and the Saint Petersburg University have beencarried out with positive results, he added.

For his part, Katanandov Sergey Leonidovich saidhis current working visit aims to concretise agreements signed by the twocities’ leaders during the visit to Saint Petersburg by Secretary of HCM CityParty Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan.

Saint Petersburg businesses hope to quickly findreliable partners to promote bilateral cooperation activities, particularly inthe fields of their strengths such as water treatment, health care, tourism,culture and cyber security.

He added that Saint Petersburg is keen tomaintain and reinforce the sound traditional cooperation with Vietnam and HCMCity in particular.

The city pledged to closely work with HCM Cityto step up the teaching of Vietnamese in Saint Petersburg and Russian in HCMCity while enhancing activities to forge youth connectivity and exchanges toincrease mutual understanding, friendship and solidarity, he said.-VNA

Resolution adjusting 2025 socio-economic development plan adopted

Under the resolution, the legislative body decided to adjust some key targets. Accordingly, the gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate is set to reach 8% or higher, with the GDP scale this year expected to exceed 500 billion USD. The GDP per capita is projected to surpass 5,000 USD, and the average consumer price index (CPI) growth rate is targeted to be around 4.5 - 5%.

According to the resolution, the construction of a modern and harmonious railway aims to meet the transport demand between Vietnam and China. The initiative is expected to serve as a catalyst for rapid and sustainable economic development along the Lao Cai-Hanoi-Hai Phong economic corridor while strengthening national defence and security and promoting the industrialisation and modernisation, contributing to delivering on the targets and missions set at the documents of the 13th National Party Congress and the Party’s resolutions.

NA deputies to approve several resolutions, laws on February 19

The deputies will pass a resolution addressing issues related to the streamlining of the political system’s organisational apparatus, a resolution on supplementation to the 2025 socio-economic development plan with a growth target of at least 8%, and another on pilot policies to remove barriers in science-technology research and innovation activities.
