HCM City (VNA) – Ho Chi Minh City wants to further enhance education cooperationwith the US, said Politburo member and Secretaryof the municipal Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan.

During a reception for Douglas Elmendorf, Dean of the John F. Kennedy School at Harvard University of the US on January 15, Nhan said his city has achievedmany development achievements in recent years, however it is forecast to face manychallenges in the coming time.

He suggested the US school, with its experience, cooperate with HCM City ineducation development, and in seeking solutions to help the southern Vietnamesecity address challenges and difficulties facing it.  

Elmendorf, who is on a working visit to HCMCity, thanked the municipal authorities for their support for HarvardUniversity’s activities in Vietnam, saying that both nations attach importanceto the value of education, and are aware that knowledge can solve challenges.

Harvard University will study, propose solutions and provide trainingcourses to improve management capacity of HCM City’s staff, he said.

It can serve as a bridge to support and find measures to solve challenges inthe development process of the city, he added./.

Remains of Vietnamese fallen soldiers, experts repatriated from Laos

The remains of 12 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts, who laid down their lives in different periods in Laos’ Savannakhet province, were repatriated following a handover ceremony on May 21. They will be re-buried at the Road 9 National Martyrs Cemetery in Vietnam's central province of Quang Tri on May 22.

Nghe An reburies martyrs' remains repatriated from Laos

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Phung Thanh Vinh said that carrying a noble international duty, many Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts heroically joined Lao people in their struggle for national liberation and independence. Many of them sacrificed their lives in the country, including more than 12,000 soldiers laying down in the three provinces of Xaysomboun, Vientiane, and Xiangkhouang.
