HCM City (VNA) – The Food Safety Management Board of Ho Chi Minh City willaccompany local firms to complete procedures and standards on food safety undera memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by the board and the Food and FoodstuffAssociation of Ho Chi Minh City (FFA) on January 25.

Ly Kim Chi, FFAPresident highlighted difficulties facing the agricultural sector and Ho ChiMinh City in 2017, in terms of falling agricultural product prices, affecting agriculturalproduction and food processing.

The sector hadbeen hit by increasing costs and fiercer competition between local and foreignfirms, Chi said, calling on local enterprises to enhance their competivenessamid intensive integration via free trade agreements.

The FFA incollaboration with sectors has hosted dialogues to support local enterprises interms of market connection and brand name development, Chi said.

Nguyen HuynhTrang, Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Industry and Trade stressed,in 2018, the FFA needs to keep enterprises updated on new food safety criteriawhile improving staff’s capacity.

Ties among firmsshould be strengthened, while facilitating access to preferential funding forenterprises and boosting promotion work.-VNA

Coast Guard Region 2 promotes IUU-free fishing among Quang Ngai fishermen

The Command of Coast Guard Region 2 briefed the fishermen on the Law of the Sea of Vietnam, the Fisheries Law, and legal documents related to IUU prevention. Officers also provided guidance on identifying areas under Vietnam’s sovereignty and jurisdiction, traditional fishing grounds, warning zones, and prohibited fishing areas.
