Ho Chi Minh City (VNA)
– A pilot control centre of security cameras in public places has been put into operation in District 5, Ho Chi Minh City, on December 6.

District 5 is the city’s first district-level locality to have a facility that collects images recorded by all security cameras on streets for storage and analysis.

The centre currently operates a network of 240 cameras installed in 15 wards. All cameras are programmed for remote control and sending images back to the centre.

It can also send early warnings when there are suspicious break-ins in residential areas or big gatherings at night.

The system will later be upgraded to receive images from 1,000 cameras in the district. In 2018, the system will be capable of handling images from 1,500 to 3,000 cameras.

The centre will be connected to the city’s police headquarters, the special taskforce 113 and traffic police, providing analysis of vehicles’ plates and face-recognition.

Huynh Cach Mang, Vice Chairman of the HCM City People’s Committee, said after the installation of security cameras in some wards in Go Vap district and district 3 proved effective in ensuring security, the programme has been expanded across districts 5 and 1.

Districts 4 and 3 are calling for local residents to join hands in installing security cameras, he said./.
