HCM City leader meets Korean top legislator
Hanoi (VNA) – Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City
Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen hosted a local reception for visiting Speaker of
the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea (RoK) Park Byeong-seug on
November 4.
Expressing his delight at the development of the Vietnam –
RoK strategic cooperative partnership, Nen said ties between the city and the
RoK as well as its localities and partners have been growing over the past years.
He wished that the visit would contribute to popularising
the city as a trustworthy destination for RoK investors.
According to him, there remains room for the development of
locality-to-locality cooperation. The city is seeking partners and resources
for several fields in the next five years such as wastewater and solid waste
treatment, flooding prevention, smart urban, and financial centre development.
He expressed his hope that with its experience, the RoK
could assist the city in workforce training in information technology (IT),
artificial intelligence (AI), health care, tourism, urban management,
automation, and logistics.
The host believed that bilateral ties will further expand
with a number of exchange activities.
Park said the RoK considers Ho Chi Minh City a focus of international
connectivity to further boost ties between the two nations.
As the RoK is strong in IT and AI, Korean localities and
businesses are ready to partner with the city in the field, he said.
He also thanked municipal authorities for creating
favourable conditions to welcome back Korean experts and investors amid COVID-19
pandemic. He suggested them offer more support to Korean community in the city,
particularly Korean firms and investors to do long-term business there.
The city has so far established cooperative ties with seven
RoK localities. The RoK is now also the third largest investor in the city.
In the morning the same day, Park and his delegation visited
several RoK economic establishments in the southern province of Dong Nai and
met representatives of the RoK community in Ho Chi Minh City./.
